2027 AAG in NYC
February 8-12
The 2027 AAG Annual Meeting will be held in New York City from February 8–12, 2027, at the Hilton Midtown, and we encourage members of the Tourism, Leisure and Mobilities Specialty Group to participate by submitting papers, organizing sessions, and serving as panelists.
The abstract submission deadline is October 15, 2026, and the session organizing deadline is November 5, 2026. The program will be released on December 10, with a final deadline of December 17 for abstract and session edits. Please note that AAG has changed its submission process this year: paper presenters and panelists will submit through the same portal, and abstracts that have not been assigned to a session by December 17 will be converted to poster presentations. Registration must be completed before submitting an abstract.
We particularly encourage TLM members to organize sessions with colleagues working on related themes in tourism, leisure, mobilities, migration, hospitality, recreation, events, digital mobilities, political economy, political ecology, labor, infrastructure, place, and other allied areas of geographical research. Organized paper sessions, panels, workshops, and other collaborative formats are excellent opportunities to bring together emerging conversations within the specialty group and to strengthen connections among scholars working across different areas of tourism, leisure, and mobilities research.
The theme of the 2027 meeting is “Grounded Relations and Desirable Futures,” with broader thematic areas including Geographic Methods, Tools, and Techniques for Knowledge and Justice; Science for People and the Planet; Geographies of Repair and Liberation; and Desirable Futures. These themes offer many potential points of connection with contemporary work in tourism, leisure, and mobilities geography.
To submit an abstract, panel proposal, or organized session, visit the AAG 2027 submission portal. We also encourage session organizers to seek TLM Specialty Group sponsorship for sessions that engage substantially with tourism, leisure, and/or mobilities scholarship.
